El Cotillo, Fuerteventura - village information

El Cotillo is a small village at the northern end of Fuerteventura, on the west coast. From Corralejo, it is 15 minutes by car, and from La Oliva, 10 minutes.
The village is centred around two small
harbours; the original harbour that is mostly used by local fishermen (and by local children for swimming) and the new harbour where the boats are moored. There are several good bars and restaurants close to both harbours, and the views to the sea and beaches are stunning.
To the south, the vast expanse of one of the best surf beaches, and to the north the famous Lagoon beaches with golden sand and tranquil waters - ideal for young children. Some of the smaller coves towards the outskirts are also popular naturist beaches.
Just up from the new harbour is El Cotillo Tower (Toston in Spanish) which is open to the public. In the tower you can find a tourist information centre of sorts. Even though the tower was built as a defence against English pirates, some of the information leaflets are in English.
To the north of El Cotillo there is a lighthouse, the shoreline and sea views are breath-taking...
Amongst its facilities, El Cotillo has: a range of shops, bars and restaurants, Banks and Cash-points, Plazas and childrens’ playground, Chemist, Hairdressers, Football Ground, Junior School and Nursery, regular buses to La Oliva, Lajares, Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario...
“El Cotillo is a small fishing village that has retained its original charm. It’s a tranquil, relaxing place and those who have discovered it keep coming back...a taste of the real Fuerteventura that attracted me over 20 years ago!” (Lyn Tsan - mum, grandma and resident in El Cotillo for over 20 years.)
